Are Garden Rooms Worth it as a Good Investment?

If you are a homeowner, you may be wondering if investing in a garden room is worthwhile. It is understandable to be concerned due to the initial cost. So, why are garden rooms worth considering?

Garden Buildings – The Ideal Solution for Space Constraints

One of the main reasons our customers choose a garden building is because they are out of space and want to expand their home. Traditional home extensions, on the other hand, can be complicated, costly, and time-consuming. This is where garden rooms come in.

Garden rooms provide a simple and speedy solution. These structures can be built in as little as three weeks and typically don’t require planning permission. It doesn’t mean that garden rooms don’t have any building regulations to adhere to, but they offer more flexibility.

Finally, by providing additional living space, you can avoid the costs of moving to a larger property.

Garden Rooms – An Excellent Investment

A garden room can be an asset when selling your home. In fact, some experts in real estate say that a well-designed garden room can increase the value of your home by 5% to 15%. As work from home is here to stay, prospective buyers will be more interested in the functionality a garden cabin provides, which makes it easier for them to make the decision. A garden room’s value will depend on several factors, such as size, quality, and location. With a well-designed and expertly built garden room, you can expect a significant increase in the overall value of your property.

Garden Office: A Perfect Quiet Workspace

Working from home may sound like a dream come true, but staying focused with all the distractions around can be challenging. With a garden room, you have a dedicated detached home workspace. You will save time with a short daily commute and work in complete privacy without interruptions. If you run your own business, you know how stressful it can be to rent external office space. A rent-free garden room can provide the perfect workspace.

Since 2002, we have been providing great garden ideas  for homeowners and commercial clients alike. Our team of experts will work with you to create your building, using top quality materials and skills.”

1-2 Weeks before

If necessary, we perform ground testing with our specialist team to test the soil suitability and calculate the appropriate length of helical screw piles needed. We will begin the mechanical installation of screw piles and base installation, ensuring that everything is secure and ready to go for the rest of the build.

Installation week

During the first week of installation, our team will arrive, introduce themselves, and discuss the building plans with you. We’re always happy to make adjustments as we go – all part of our bespoke service.
We’ll focus on walls, cladding, doors, windows, and roofing during the second week. This is where your cabin starts to take shape.

We then move on to plastering, floor fitting, and decorating during the third week (or fourth for larger projects). This is where the interior of your cabin really starts to come together.
On the last day, we do a big tidy-up and say our goodbyes.

Your dream retreat is finally yours!

“At London Town Cabins, we are committed to providing a transparent and personalized service. We will work with you every step of the way to ensure that you’re happy with the design and that the installation process goes smoothly..”

What You Need to Know About Insulation in Your Garden Room

The soaring demand for garden rooms in the area, due to rocketing house prices and the decision to work from home by numerous professionals, led David to create London Town Cabins – a specialist team that focuses on building high-quality, bespoke garden buildings. In today’s blog, we will discover with him the importance of insulation in garden rooms and the options available to customers.

Understanding Insulation in Garden Cabins

Q: David, why is insulation important in a garden room?

David: “Insulation is crucial in a garden room because it helps regulate the temperature inside the space, making it comfortable to use in all seasons. Without proper insulation, a garden room can become too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, making it difficult to enjoy the space for extended periods of time.”

Q: What insulation options do you offer for garden rooms?

David: “For the walls and ceilings of our garden rooms, we use mineral wool insulation. Made from natural rock, it provides exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation and is fire-resistant. With this type of insulation, your garden room will stay cosy and warm during the winter months and refreshingly cool during the summer.

When it comes to the floor of our garden rooms, we rely on PIR insulation. This foam insulation has a high R-value, meaning it provides unbeatable heat resistance. Not only that, but it also has outstanding compression strength, so it will continue to perform at its best all year round.”

Q: How do customers maintain the insulation in their garden rooms?

A: “You don’t have to worry much about your insulation maintenance; it is totally self-sufficient. Always try to have good airflow in your cabin to avoid natural moisture build-up from body heat and respiration.”

We hope this interview with David has provided valuable insights into the importance of insulation in garden rooms and the various options available.

Expert Tips to Choosing the Perfect Garden Room: Considerations for Size

Today, gardens fulfil a significant, often multifaceted role. They are where we live, play, entertain, relax, work, or reconnect with nature.

A Garden Room might be your answer if you want to transform your garden into a usable space. The core of creating the perfect Garden Room is functionality, and size plays an essential role in achieving that.

The size of your garden

The size of your garden determines the maximum size of a garden office, gym, or studio. It’s worth measuring how much space is available and which type of building would suit it best.

If the building is to be further than 2m from any boundary, then the rules are more relaxed: for a mono-pitched roof, the maximum roof height can be 3m, and for a dual-pitched roof, the maximum ridge height can be 4m. The eaves height for both must still be no higher than 2.5m.

Your Garden Room Size vs Planning Permission.

The rules for this vary depending on where you live, so it’s best to check with your local council first.

Generally speaking, full planning permission will be required if your property is listed or located within a conservation area, or if you live in a flat.

Usually, you won’t need planning permission to build a garden room if it adheres to permitted development guidelines: according to regulations, a garden room must not exceed 2.5m in height if it’s within 2m of a boundary or covers less than 50% of your full garden area – This is the total land area of your property minus the original house area.

You will need to include any extensions that have been added since the house was first built – even those built before you started living there.

Outside of these restrictions, we have found that planning permission is still often possible, and we can help make a planning application on your behalf for a small fee for producing the plans, and the application costs.

Find in this article a detailed explanation of planning permission for garden offices.

How you plan to use your garden room will also affect its size. We encourage our customers to think about how the usage of their garden cabin may change over time and factor that into their decision-making process.

If you’re planning to build a more extensive space, you may need to apply for planning permission.

Discovering The Best Garden Room for Your Unique Needs

“One size doesn’t fit all.”

We know It can be overwhelming to make the final decision about the features and design of your garden room. But if you have the right guidance with a detailed explanation about your options, this process will be enjoyable and faster. With our expertise in creating bespoke garden rooms, we understand that identifying your unique needs and preferences is essential to ensure you’ll be happy with the final result. In this guide, we’ll explore the different types of garden rooms and some questions you need to consider to make the best decision.

Defining your needs

By thinking about how you want to use your garden room and who will use it, you can narrow down your options and find the perfect space for your needs. Do you need a space to work from home? Host parties? Store gardening equipment? Or a home gym?

If you are planning on using the space for entertaining, you will need a larger garden room than if you are only planning on using it as a home office. You must ensure the garden room is safe and child-friendly if you want to use it as a playground. If you need a lot of natural light, you should orient your garden room to get more sunlight.

Types of Garden Rooms

Garden Office

A garden office is perfect if you want to create a dedicated workspace in your home. These rooms are designed with functionality in mind, featuring ample natural light, heating, internet and all the necessary electrical outlets for your computer and other office equipment. Plus, you’ll have the added benefit of separating your work and home life, allowing you to focus and be more productive in your garden office. But, if you’re not sure if you want to commit to a full office, you can always start small and add on later.

Garden Studio

Next, consider a garden studio. These rooms are ideal if you need a space for creative endeavours, such as painting, music, or crafting. Garden studios are often larger than garden offices and can be customized to suit your specific needs. They can be outfitted with skylights and large windows to let in plenty of natural light and can also include built-in storage to keep your supplies organized. Also, remember that a garden studio can be an excellent space for yoga or meditation.

Garden Cabin for your outdoor living

Finally, a garden cabin can be an excellent option if you want a more versatile space. You can use your outdoor living as a guest room, bespoke garden bar, playground, or small home gym. Garden cabins can also be designed to blend seamlessly into your backyard, making them an excellent option if you are looking for a more natural, organic feel.
